MOUNT
MERU

Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located within the Arusha National Park, about 43 miles west of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, standing at an elevation of 4,562 meters (14,968 feet). The mountain is part of the East African Rift System and is located just east of the Great Rift Valley.

Mount Meru is considered one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes, with its distinct horseshoe-shaped crater and lush vegetation. It is often overshadowed by its famous neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro, but it too offers a stunning and challenging trekking experience for adventurers.

The mountain is known for its diverse ecosystems. This diversity of flora and fauna makes it a haven for wildlife, including elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and various species of monkeys.

The ascent of Mount Meru usually takes around 3 to 4 days, with climbers starting from the Momela Gate. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including the neighboring Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. The summit of Mount Meru is called "Socialist Peak," and reaching it rewards climbers with panoramic views of the crater and the surrounding plains.

The best time to climb Mount Meru is during the dry season, from June to February, when the weather is generally clear and the views are at their best.
